Accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, ViTALS is the on-site interdisciplinary diagnostic laboratory of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

ViTALS Research Services

ViTALS offers a wide variety of scientific services in the broad areas of veterinary medicine to researchers at colleges on the Virginia Tech campus and to private industry customers outside the college.

These services consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Clinical microbiology (including Bruker MALDI Biotyper® mass spectrometer identification)
  • Cytopathology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood gas, and hematology
  • Diagnostic necropsy
  • Histology (tissue processing, embedding, staining)
  • Immunohistochemistry staining using the Ventana Discovery Ultra
  • Molecular diagnostics
  • Parasitology
  • Pathology consultation
